It is said that this decade is all about information technology and in the two years we have seen it being proved right. Although the decade started with the painful Covid-19 pandemic and the whole world almost stopped for almost 2 years, at the same time the IT world saw a great boost because to connect with the world or to operate the business from home, the IT industry had a major role to play. We saw the digitization process take up speed exponentially and a lot of sectors went online. The most affected were the students because as a society the first responsibility is to save the young ones from such mishaps. So we saw schools and colleges shutting down for almost a year and a half but the education process had to not stop so E-Learning which had already its root in the ground grew in full shape during the lockdown period. After the effects faded away it still kept on growing and still continues to grow.
An E-Learning App
As we discussed earlier, during covid students adjusted to the online education system and got used to it. It opened doors to digitization in the whole education system and we can see various institutes in our surroundings moving towards e-learning apps to impart knowledge. Some have launched their own platforms while some merged with existing platforms. One of the trending e-learning apps is Noon Academy having above 12 million students enrolled in it. Beyond numbers, the thing that made it famous is its features. Let’s see what features it has to be so famous.
- Live Classes: This is the basic required feature. The lectures are telecasted live in different time slots. This gives a way to interactive teaching, which is not possible while telecasting recorded videos.
- Curriculum: The students must be able to see the syllabi and the progress could be tracked from both ends.
- Problem-Solving through Team Discussion: To give a feel of the virtual classroom in the e-learning apps this is the most premium feature. Here the groups are created subject and class wise and problems could be discussed through discourse like discord.
- Doubt Solving: The students should be able to raise their doubts in some sections, and resolution is done in an efficient manner.
- Attendance: Tracking a record of attendance is a must-feature for any e-learning app.
- Tests and Exams: The tests are a compulsory part of the academic cycle so in the e-learning app the feature of conducting online tests/exams is to be compulsorily included.
So these are the features included in the Noon App. The most interesting feature for me was problem-solving through discussions. It is more interesting than you might feel, it is exactly like discord.
So once the features are clear, the next step would be to check out the tasks involved, the technology stack, and the cost incurred in developing one such application.
Modules of the Application
- Client Application
- Admin Panel
- Teacher’s Panel
Tasks involved during development :
- UI Design: The first step is to finalize the theme and design the UI to get the exact look and feel of the app.
- Front-End Development: Once the UI is finalized, it needs to be coded to create an application.
- Backend Development: The connectivity of the application with the database is the next required feature.
- API Integration: The APIs are integrated with the app for different features like connectivity with the database, live classes, push notifications, SMS alerts, etc.
- Testing and Bug Fixing: Once the application is ready it goes for testing by the QA team. The bugs found by them are fixed and given back to QA for testing. This cycle continues till the application is given a green flag for deployment.
- Deployment: The app is deployed on the play store and app store and is ready to use.
Cost of the Application
The cost for this application totally depends on the technology being used. There are two methods for app development one is native development and the other is hybrid development.
Hybrid development cuts the cost to a great extent and is the best method for any startup. If we were to calculate the average cost of developing the app through the hybrid method it would be around 25-30,000 INR. The cost may vary as per the customization required by you.
